After putting the final load in the dryer and coming back to the apartment to begin sorting, tossing, and maybe loading, I figured I was finished with the new place. I did do some sorting, tossing, and loading, and so decided to take a load over. It is a very good thing I did. The dryer is a gas dryer, and a little older. On the first load I set it to auto-dry, more. And it worked fine, so that when I checked on it, the machine had stopped and the clothes were simply dry. This last load I did the same thing, only it did not stop. If I had not gone over to check on it, there might have been a problem, a big problem. Now I know.
Bit by bit, everything is coming together for the move. I will not be able to get call utilities until Monday, though there are few moving in at this time of year so perhaps they can have someone over there sooner than a week or two. Having internet would facilitate a quicker complete move. Yes, I am addicted. *clickety-clack clickety-clack* *bonk* Well, maybe not as bad as I have been. Those games used to Pwn me, too. Now I only play one, and then only a few hours a day at most, and not even consecutive hours usually. But blogging and sometimes research can eat vast amounts of my time if I am not careful. That is, of course, if I can awaken enough to focus on longer posts, or more in-depth posts. Damned if I do and, damned if I... huh? Never mind.
I didnt bother with utilities. I have my mobile phone and I bought a mobile dongle for my laptop. It seemed cheapest and easiest since everyone seems to want to lock you into a minimum of 12 months contract and I dont know how long Im going to be renting here. However, last night I was unable to connect to the server at all. It was very frustrating :(
ReplyDeleteSo I watched Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler instead and forgot all about Scrabble on Facebook :)
You know, that might be a plan. Though, my laptop which could use that is currently broken and I would have to add a ton of minutes to do that. Though that is a great idea for traveling, since I have nationwide roaming.
ReplyDeleteI had to sign a two year contract, which brought the bill to $35 a month. I didn't know they had competition, as where I came from they didn't, or I could have gotten faster for $30 a month and a one year contract. But if I move out of area, as I may, the current contract is voided at least.
I have "internet" on my cellphone, but it is pretty cheesy and often dysfunctional. Only good for... not much. But the dongle would fix that. Thanks for the notion. I knew about it, but hadn't thought about it recently since when I first heard about it all I had was my desk top machine.
One thing to be aware of is that most wireless broadband services have a fairly tight limit on monthly download volume. If you do any amount of listening to music online or watching youtube videos, etc. it can add up quickly.
ReplyDeleteI am sharing satellite service with my Mom out here and we have a 7.5 GB per month limit. She uses a small fraction of that but I have come close to that limit on a couple occasions. I checked out Verizion wireless broadband and they have a lower limit yet, something like 5.5 GB/mo.
I neither watch Youtube all that much nor pull down music. So I am probably good. But, that is good to know. Oh, but my wireless is only wireless through the dsl. It isn't national, regional, state, or city wide. Though I ought to see if there is a limit. A lot of ISPs, even, are attempting to limit downloads.
