Not much. But tonight I did. All but one slice of that large pizza. No worries, I'm paying for it, on several fronts. God did set things up in a certain way. Then again, it's not like I get to do this often. And, it is a holiday! Bleh. Thanksgiving bloat, right ch'ere. I'll get over it.
Nothing got... wait... I did water the plants and find the plumber's wrench. That is something. Not much, but... something. I am sort of toast lately, it's just the way of it. Well, I am brushing and taking medicine regularly. There is that. But, yeah. I'll try to push a bit harder next week. I do what I can, usually, to the best of my knowledge, and sometimes more. The thing is I never know until after if I've done too much. Trying to throttle, when the engines can cook themselves one day while not even hitting second gear the next, with the same throttle pull... is... well... tricky, frustrating, infuriating even. Meh, I just classified my body as an antique. It's not really for business anymore. Or pleasure. Just eye candy. *grins* Eye sore, eye candy, hush...
I do think I'll get to bed early, shortly. It has been a pleasant day. Good night.
I wonder and sometimes worry. Herein lie those ponderings with perhaps some editing but still in their truer forms. Whisper as well, though in truth, whispers are just that, rustlings in the wind and nothing more. It is kind to not be alone with one's own whispers.

Cover crop and pizza.
.
.
I called about the the garden. He was going to call, himself. He just got back from a trip to England. Just a fluke of a thing, but... I am hoping, when he shows up, to be in condition to chat about that. However, he said the crop planted isn't a production, but cover crop, or... some such. They won't be planting until this fall? The connection wasn't great, and it sounded as if he were busy. I did ask if the time was okay to talk, and he said yes, but I think he breaks himself to try to be polite. Anyway... So, that is arranged.
It all seems okay now. I had been a bit worried, but you never know until you know. Mountain meet molehill. Now laugh, damn it! :p
Oh, and I have decided to order a pizza for pickup. I wish they delivered, but that isn't the way it goes. All good, it'll get me off my duff. Hmm, a mostly meat pizza, one of their specialties, but... hold the Canadian bacon and green peppers and add extra peperoni and either Italian sausage or mozzarella. I'll flip a coin as I am calling. Hmm... might just pay the bit extra for the extra? Yeah, why not. It's not like I do this every day, and I think it's just a buck. Mostly meat, some mushroom, and a bit extra. Sounds good to me. It is a weekend, and a holiday? Sheesh, no one ever tells me anything. I'm firing my office manager. Since I am it, and no one else around, I'll fire myself and hire myself into a new position... Hrmm... Chief executive sounds good. A promotion for a lousy job? Hey, I'm like the government elites!
Later.
-------
Went with their "triple threat", a pizza with some special cheese blend and three types of peperoni. Plus you can have two toppings of choice. Italian sausage and extra cheese sounded good. You never quite know what bait will get you on the hook until you take a closer look, do you? Ha! Fifteen to twenty minutes. I'd rather now:30, but... How to time it so that I'm not just standing around in the restaurant while waiting, but not have it cool off? It's a physics problem, technically, without any real resolution, only probabilities. And probabilities aren't so much probabilities but a huge collection of improbabilities stacked to look like they mean something. All but an infinitely small section of them is incorrect. Still, I like fishing and I usually don't bring home fish? Yeah. And, generally, I wouldn't get paid as much to fish, if I think that... is about to be corrected, at least on the math, and academic, side of things. Oh yes it is.
Doh! Pizza. Later!

Something special about that lad.

Well, that's what I remembered hearing. And, even I knew it was true. Nothing has changed.
I went outside, and, checking the sun and clouds, guesstimated about this and that. It looks like the sun is probably past being able to burn the plants, and more, it looks like the clouds are building and blocking even more of the sun if I doubt rain is in the mix. So I just go to it. The sprayer leaks just a bit, but the hose itself has a shutoff that holds. No water was near the hose when I went out. Spray, this one, then the next, and so on. They are looking good but only time really tells. One bunch of flowers had tilted a bit, so I straightened them... hand tight. A few more sprayings of each, and that job looks done and right. Monday or Tuesday will see to them being watered just a wee more.
Back in the cave I decided to look for the plumber's wrench first. It's an easy thing to miss. While long, heavy in the hand, with both black and chrome bits, it can fit a very thin profile and I don't have my tools back into arrangement. It took just a bit of digging. Not only was it found, of course, in the last drawer I looked. It was also found in the last drawer in which it might have been. One is bad luck, one is good common sense. :) It's profile had made it nearly impossible to simply spot, as it had aligned itself with the front of the drawer.
That found, I headed to the sink. I needed more room, so decided to remove the drain and trap piping. That also allowed me to removed the old water tank. I am not sure if I will use that as a spare, or set it up in tandem, or something like that. But, for now, I need the room where it had been sitting. Easy enough. Lots of water in there, in the piping that I pulled out, but I carefully manipulated it so that it wouldn't spill out everywhere. I ALMOST drained it into the sink. The sink in which, under which really, I had just removed the drain, the drain I was holding, the drain I was considering dumping into the sink... Am I going in circles yet? Anyway... A quick rethink lent to seeing me set the drain piping, with the nasty water, in the sink in such a way that it would not spill, tilt and spill, or such. Then I noticed coffee. Almost out. Another pot sounded good. One thing at a time, you know.
So, I filled the coffee pot. Using the r.o. water faucet. Drip, drip, drip-drip-splash. Oh! The water valve was still on! So I grabbed a cup and put under the drip. Ah, but that's not going to hold all the water! Twelve cups of used water, times three or four due to how r.o. works, going down the drain, isn't going to fit in a two cup container. Ah, a pan in the sink... But what is in it? Ah, water from the last r.o., before I changed it out. What was left of it, maybe a gallon? I had used most of it, watering the cats, a sip here and there, making coffee, or whatnot. I had also forgotten about it. So... what do you, naturally, do, if you have a pot full of water and want to empty it quickly to use for something else? Why you dump it in the sink. The sink I had just spent a bit of time removing the drain piping from, and going through other water problems, which is... why I was emptying the pot. Gah! Right down the drain.
Yeah... I'll have a cup of the old coffee and use it up. Then another cup. As I let the area dry out a bit. A towel will help but... Special. Maybe extra special. Ah but it was a beautiful thing. And... no... it doesn't always work out that way. Idiot savant, of the home improvement sector, I should think. When it works, when I do it right, it's beautiful. When I don't, even that is beautiful. If the latter is not in the form that women always appreciate, or myself if I'm not in the mood for it. Today it was just a funny. A good story. Hope you enjoy.

Alivety thirty?
.
.
That, actually, can be any time. Currently it is five past 14:00. I've, mostly, been moping and waking. Thorns in the side, and whatnot. Oh, sure, leaving wounds alone seems the wiser. But the psychic tongue cannot always be stayed. And, there is something to be said for the salty sweet that only tears can offer. It has been a good time, though. What I mean by alivety thirty is that I think I can get to something. There seems to be a bit of life in the old boy yet, is all. So...
Hmm... now to brush my teeth, check to see if medicines were taken, then get on to the sink. It would be nicer if they made the cabinet under the sinks just a wee bigger, mind you. If I ever get to redoing the cabinets, that will be kept in mind. The two things that would help would be just a bit more length of counter space and a bit more height. The absolutely cram the piping in behind the counter, right up to the wall. Even smaller guys have trouble, as it's a matter of using odd, mocked up tools, that aren't really good but they are all that is available, to screw and unscrew nuts in a space no fingers, or other tools, can really reach. Seriously? Who thought this up. Ah. Plumber unions. There you go. It's how they get away with overcharging, part of it. Yeah. Anyway... something to think about if I ever decide to build kitchen cabinets. I just have to remember not to fill that extra space with a bigger sink. Even three inches back there would allow a real tool to be used.
Never mind. Right now all I can do is grump about it and... work with what I have. I have to find the plumber's wrench and get busy. Hmm... and make sure the water shutoff valves work. I don't trust anything, especially if I did it... or someone else did it, even worse if both someone else and myself worked on it. :p Yeah, I'm that kind of guy. The faster I get started, the quicker I will tire. Wait, I mean, the quicker I will finish... or get to the next stage in what is supposed to be a single stage event. Bah! Oh, ignore me. I actually enjoy this, when I can get to it, more so when I finish and have a functioning system. I just enjoy negging it a bit, to soften it up, before I start. :)
I never did water the flowers yesterday. I'll do that right first thing, since it seems as if it has been partly cloudy... if the sun has gone far enough. I know, if I water them, even if it is partly cloudy, and the sun can get to them? It WILL come out and burn them to a crisp. Just... no, really, just... trust me. At least I know the rules, how things work, and such... a bit. Later.

Good morning, people.
.
.
I was a bit worried about this morning after *cough* last night. I actually didn't have all that much. It did hit like a hammer though. Oh, maybe five or six mixed, or the equivalent. This morning is just fine. Not even a little fuzz. However, my days continue to slip. That has more to do with being unable to sleep at night, early enough. I am not sure what to do about that but I'm thinking.
Oh, right. I told you yesterday, that I would tell you, tomorrow, what is better than fresh coffee in the morning. So, I will tell you... tomorrow! Just kidding. What is, truly, better than fresh coffee in the morning? You coffee lovers know. Nothing! Ah well. But there it is. Hope it was worth the wait.
I have goals, again, today. Getting the kitchen sink to flow is the primary goal. No sweating, so... Now, a suggestion came in that perhaps the screen on the tap might be the problem. I WILL check that, but it's a new faucet. As was the one before it that had this same problem, and the one before it that was here when I moved in... with the same problem. None of their screens were the problem, but... I will check. Mostly as a last resort, because what I found in changing the other two screens was that could end up being a death sentence for those screens, getting new ones is far from as easy as just asking at the hardware store, and even getting them back on is a trick akin to learning to ride a bicycle for the first time. Still, if the flex-hoses are good, I will be removing the faucet whole and begin... exploring. I... dread this part. I break things so easily.
If I can get to that, and get that going... finished... actually... then I want to change the valves in the bathroom so I can shut the water off right there, plus figure out why the flow is so poor in there. This is not going to be a fun set of tasks. And... I'm not sure what to do if none of it works. Replacing the faucet in the sink twice, in the end with an absolutely top notch faucet, did not work. So the problem isn't with three different faucets, but the system, somehow. A plumber? So expensive. I fear that, sweat it. Time will tell.
Uhrm, assuming I can regain focus and begin the work today. The sooner I start, the faster I will know if I can fix the problem. It's an ugly thing but it's what I have. And... I sort of like doing these sorts of things if I didn't feel so pressed for easy, fast, success. It never seems to ends up easy, it's never fast, it always takes longer than suspected, it dries me out and washes me up... but... Yeah. At least I am starting off with a good day. Later.

Bedtime already?
.
.
I came out, sat at the machine, tended a few notions here and elsewhere, then made a plan of attack. As I mentioned, the kitchen sink faucet is not running, pretty much at all. A trickle goes through. The new valves did not fix that. So, I fully intended to get to the flex-hoses and the faucet itself, if need be. A great plan. I made some coffee, and... enjoyed that. I listened to music. I checked blogs, and the "news". I got up, every once in a while. To use the restroom, which I cleaned on my rounds. To get more coffee. I just could not get to my intended. Simply couldn't. I'd bend over, pick up a tool, and become confused. Yes, as little as I did yesterday, it was enough that rest was required today.
You do realize, if forced to flee or die, I'd shoot the threat (and then maybe die), don't you? If I can't run, I won't. Nothing will ever chase me to death. And unless it's a tank, one way or another I will do some damage. Hmm... even if it is a tank, maybe. If I am going to die... might as well do it creatively, not just standing there, even if I can't run. Some days I might run for cover, or drop and roll. Some days... not so much. Today was a "not so much" day. Not much I can do about that.
Still, it was a pleasant day. My post about dragons... actually zinged me pretty good. But I am almost over the sting. Yes, the price... higher than the value. All life without God, Wisdom, Salvation, is more expensive than it is worth, no matter how alluring or titillating it can be. Filling the belly, but denying the soul. Handling the libido but producing nothing but sorrow. Finding justice by becoming criminal. Empty. Dead. The price, if you live long enough to change, is memory. And a continued want. That fire, she's a bitch. And she burns everything. And she is you. Even if you surrender foolishness. Better, far better, late then never. Christ suggests the shepherd will go after the one, leaving the many. And so He did. Bahhh. :) These wounds, I do believe, will also one day be mended. But not today. So I weep, sometimes. Through my most grievous fault.
And yet, still a good day. Tears of regret are another form of tears of joy, even for an alligator. Good night.

When is and is it not God?
.
.
I have heard athletes and movie stars suggest that their fame and fortune involves God. While success in those fields, given the numbers of those interested in being a part of it, is probably slightly rarefied, I suspect God had nothing to do with it beyond starting the whole ball rolling in the first places. At that point choices by present folk, and of course our predecessors, played a roll. Probability is what it is to include chaos theory; and maybe a few other events, some perhaps peripherally dealing with God, leading into our time... such as how the flood changed how things where, so are today. But God did not come down and suggest to some talent scout to pick So-and Whoositz. Beyond, considering the Hollywood, and "atheletic" set, and what goes on behind the scenes, I have great doubt that God, if He were to get involved, would do anything but keep people out of those viper pits.
Look, if you died and yet live... if you had a terminal illness and just "impossibly" got better... if the sun stops in the sky and the oceans turn red? Yeah, that might have something to do with God. Much else? I am quite dubious. Yes, I would have wanted to see the wounds. Yes, I would have checked them closely. But neither did Christ lament, or repudiate St. Thomas. Nor will God do so today. Miracles? Sure. But your job, health, long life, or how many pencils you have... not so much.
Many people, including myself, make the mistake of confusing God with rarity. While I have been dead three times, over a usually quickly terminal illness which I have unbelievably lived with for decades beyond the life expectancy of such... I don't think God, truly, did anything but... start the ball rolling. Choices, in the past, before my time, by people I have never heard of, both in my line and outside of it, lead to my birth, in a place and time, where with what I was born with, I was able to survive. Nothing more... probably. God does throw curve-balls though, and has His own reasons and intent, both built in and through involvements. Nothing is certain until it is or isn't.
Chance? Not... quite. Willed chance, by God, but not His direct command or even direct involvement. Choice is involved, but obviously is not how things run. A reality brew, you might say, concocted of many ingredients and processes. So many things are wrongly construed. If it is bad, could it be God? Why... yes. Easily. Happily should one have entertained Wisdom, if perhaps only in time. We are, after all, truly just human. A true martyr will receive rewards like few others. Job learned harshly, but held and was rewarded even here. Rain will fall on the house of the good and evil. It just will.
Oh, by the way... My mother has finally, after many years of not and no likelihood of starting, started attending church. I have prayed for this for... many years. She knew my intent but had her own. Funny, she is in church while I... sit here at home? Ah, but, it isn't as it seems. Should I be in a coma, it would make more sense. None would question it. My health makes... exact hour attendance quite a... trick. Alive, but, often, not. You, most of you, think nothing of showering, grooming, dressing, and being somewhere at precisely the half hour before the hour. For me that is akin to a tactical operation, involving every bit of effort and concentration I can pull together. And, even so, it fails quite often. I have gotten it all done, and headed toward the door, many times, to look at the clock and see the time has... passed. Not just minutes late, sometimes hours. It is not impossible to have done so on the wrong day... or did it just take... a... really... long... time... *shrug* Time... doesn't quite mean the same to you and to me, I think. Still, I was quite pleased, and I will... work... in the next month... to try to make it, and be with her at church, if only in spirit through time and space. If the dead can raise the dead, there be yet hope.
It may not rhyme but it makes perfect sense. And that trumps rhyming. I called the pizza place. Despite advertising online, where I saw it, that they were open until 22:00, they actually closed at 21:00. I wish they would keep up with their online, business, blogs. Yes, you have to have some idea of what you are doing to fix that. But this isn't rocket science. I'll cut them a break. Their pizzas are worth it. Maybe that was a recent change, or the guy in charge of the blog left and now it's just... out there, on it's own. Wendy's. They have one in a local town. They also have a McDonalds. If I eat in that town, I don't eat at McDonalds unless I am eating in. They have a tendency to put out old fries, I suppose unless they know you or something. Several different times, so... I just won't shop there anymore. Wendy's worked just fine, a triple, no cheese. Usually I don't like their fries. I think they have changed something, because I actually did last night, and it wasn't just hunger. I did the tiny bite and slow/fast chew test, and several other. Their fries, at least last night, seemed rather good. Maybe not quite McDonalds (fresh) fries, but not horrible, or three-off, or 'old' before they were even cooked... Something. I might have to try them again today just to see if my notions hold. I like some surprises.
What is better than a cup of fresh coffee in the morning? As I sip a cup for the second day in a row, after a bit of involuntary time off, I have had time to consider time with, and without, it. I prefer fresh ground, and French roast, heavy... say four to five dosers per pot. Oh, that isn't as thick as some make it. Desert Cat uses almost that much per cup, but does a fast press, so... doesn't get it all. Still... even so... that is a lot stronger. And some like it weaker. My mother begs for a two doser pot o' coffee, and gets it, when she is here. Well, I do a five doser the first day, then cut it to three, and she is good with that, mostly. But I sure get a lot of work out of her that first day! :) *ducks* I know she is reading this, somehow. So - What is better than coffee, first thing in the morning? Answer below the fold.
To bed somewhere around 0:00, 0:30, after the one, maybe even after the other. Just too jazzed from the late doings and the meal. I did not set the alarm. Still woke at 7:26 or some such. I can't remember... was I already waking, then saw the time... or did I see the time and decide to wake. Little details, but I prefer to remember such things. For decades I have lived without most of the very basic memories along this nature. As I get better, and they become more attainable... I treasure them. I try to hold onto each memory, minor thought along these lines. It's a small thing, maybe unimportant to you. But, before I was mothballed, each little thing was important. It helped in processing success, failure, and what I did that better furthered the one I wanted. And, it was an attitude check. Professionals can't afford some things. Slothful minds are a luxury, one not afforded men working with hard things. I want that back. A relic, only, maybe, if I got it back today. I don't even have to salute anymore, or wear a uniform. Then again, I had it before the service, it was a lifestyle, and I want it back.
Today? Don't know. Feel fairly good, but that doesn't mean I will be energetic. The shoulder blade, knocking on wood, doesn't seem to be hurting anymore. Just a little stiff in the mornings, but without pain above my threshold. It's still there, just right below my threshold. When I concentrate, I can see the other signs indicating some pain still exists. I just don't usually concentrate. Full function has returned, and working doesn't seem to stress the shoulder blade, so... Oh... today? Like I said, I would like to strip the flexi-hoses from under the sink, check those. If they aren't the problem, or not all of the problem, then the faucet will probably be removed and tinkered with. As well, I will definitely, whatever else happens, water the plants again today, probably after the sun has passed them and they have been shaded for an hour or so. Anything else will be pure luck and happenstance.

Yes, yes, no, and a yes to a no.
.
.
I got the last valve on. This time I remembered that I have sealing... go. Plumber's tape is fine, if you can reach in there. It's not so good for wrapping around pipes that are already a stretch to reach, and further are right next to a wall. Goop is your friend. I even bought high temp, high pressure, for an abundance of caution. So it's good for hot and cold, and mostly non-toxic! Whatever. Turning the water on after exchanging valves is... always a time of concern. These held, just fine. The problem is the sink faucet still won't let much water through. Yeah, I know. So, tomorrow, I'll be checking the hoses (didn't do that today, just focused on the valves, one of which was definitely faulty... though if memory serves, they both were. If it isn't the hoses, then I'll have to pull out the faucet and do a tear-down to see if I can't fix it, clear it, whatever.
With the valves holding, I simply didn't want to tinker much more with that. No need to go causing a problem I'm in no shape to mess with. I've already had a shower, twice in one day is pushing it.. But I did water the new plants and flowers. I'll probably soak them again tomorrow, then take that down to twice a week. Hmm... might put that on my e-calendar. Wednesday and Saturday? Tuesday and Friday? Don't know.
Oh, and the yes to a no? I'm hungry. But there is no way I can cook anything with the mess I have going. So... in to town. I think the pizza joint is probably closed. I could call and see if I could order pick up, if they aren't closed. If not, fast food. Oh yes, hungry as a bear.
Good night.

There seemed to have been a miscommunication. All worked out in the end. Flowers were planted. One of the valves has gone in. Another valve and I will call it a day, turn on the water, and spray the newly planted flowers... if the new valves don't leak. I did get the multi-noseled connection found and on, untangled one of the hoses and connected it, then ran it around so that when water comes back on, I'll be able to simply pray the new plants.
I don't think I'll have supper though. Just, I think that is going to be it. I'll probably need a day or two to rest after all the doings today. Or not. Who knows. Sometimes I need to shut down, sometimes I don't. I'd like to get the new valves in the bathroom, and check the flexi-hoses while I am at it, tomorrow. But... who knows. I've got the doors open, but I will need to do a bit more. The cat litter has... become a bit unkempt and the cave is a mess. That will be my next have to do project, with anything else just having to wait, or get fit in with it.
On to... something or other. Later.

I did wash the dishes this morning, then got a shower in. After that I set the dishes to a rinse soak. Then on into town. I was pushing it, time wise, but everything seemed to be clicking, so...
I only made it to one store. Obviously I didn't get everything. Groceries will just have to wait. Even in the hardware store, I didn't get everything. I skipped the new valves for the indoor water shutoff capacity. I did get the bolts for the various shop bench tools, with bolts and nuts. I also bought new valves for the the various sinks, to try to get water flow going and get rid of the disfunctional shut-off valves. Actually, I am replacing them all. Oh, though I didn't go the hard way, as I did the other day. I looked over, was introduced, to the 1/2 turn valves, that are preset for sink faucets. Yeah, that saves me several risks, as to leaks, and several dollars... I think. Never mind. After looking them over, I went with them. As well, flowers and various plants for the planters.
I didn't have time for the grocery store, as noted. I thought about buying a lunch, but time... It was just right at the point where one mistake, a slow delivery, a bit of a line, anything, and I would have been late. So... I skipped that. Maybe I will go in for a personal pizza later. Love that stuff once in a while. Especially from one of the private local pizza joints. They do well. Hmm... After a bit of a break, and a some company, I may yet try to change the valves and flex-hoses if need be, yet today, before going for pizza. At this point my sink is not putting more than a literal trickle through. Having taken a shower I know it is not water still being shut off... though maybe the valves are funky. Could be that the ball valve on one side is somehow stealing pressure, though that seems incorrect, especially once the tank has filled and the pressure ends. And, that wouldn't affect the hot water side of things. Bleh... Time for more learnin'.

I couldn't get to bed until 22:00, give or take small change. I remembered to set the alarm but didn't hear it until 6:26. The little I did yesterday, and just general oddness in the last few days, I suppose, threw me off. No worries. Took a bit to actually wake, but that's okay. The girls were right at the door. They, somehow, beat on that door. Interesting little critters. Glad these don't know how to open the door like the first cat I personally owned. That was... irritating. She liked opening he door when I was in the bathroom too. Brat.
I am taking medicine almost as well as clockwork. A dose, maybe two, are missed every or every other week. Brushing and using that pharmacy stuff is happening pseudo regularly. I'm doing my best. And, yeah, it's ok. I don't think it will help all that much, but there isn't much to help. Bone loss in my teeth is less than men my age who generally tend their teeth and gums. I'm using a timer to brush for two minutes and gargle for 30 seconds. I haven't started flossing yet, but will only be doing that at night. I use the picks after meals, can't stand food between my teeth. Further, I keep trying, and doing, little bits of this and that. If I keep going in this direction, I might, eventually, get more caught up than I suspect. When the bigger jobs are done, maybe I can... work on neatness and cleanliness... if that is... not really my area.
Today? Hmm... Dishes, shortly, then a shower, then to town for some flora. Some edible, some not so much. Well, and some hardware and groceries, time permitting. Yes, yes, the dishes have already been given a fresh hot soak. I doubt if I will get to anything else, but you never know. Hmm, if I get a pork roast, or another brisket, I'll get that grilling. And, maybe, I'll get those replacement valves in.
I do have a notion of why my water flow stinks. The valves they sell for household plumbing have water-tenders in them, if I had to guess. Oh, I understand. But if the government is going to mandate something, they need to make sure the tech is functional. Which, obviously, since five of eight of them have failed, at least four of them very new, then the government has failed. When the government fails while attempting to do even a good, it must be set aside and ignored. Do it right or be resigned to irrelevancy. *HrUmPh!*

Three runs and a sip.
.
.
No leaks that I can detect. Gotta keep an eye on it, for a while. A taste of the water was satisfying. A bit crisper than what I was getting, but not all that different. Still, it is very good to have r.o. water back on tap. It is late, but I wanted a cup of coffee, for a final test. I love my coffee, and have missed it. Splenda soda is okay, but just barely. It is better for a cold, different, drink, once in a while. Not as a stand in for coffee. Hmm, might have a couple glasses of water while I am at it. It's a warm day, or... I am feeling warm. We've had a breeze all day, really, but it's been a hot breeze. Nothing worth opening the door to enjoy.
I am hoping to hit it a little earlier tonight. Before 21:00 is the goal, with 6:00 set on the alarm. I need to run to town in the morning to look for plants, maybe stop at the hardware store for some bolts, and perhaps catch a free and easy meal. Hmm, might look for a pork roast while in town as well, and mayonnaise. I have everything else for potato salad. Maybe a few lemons, to add to a big batch of potato salad? Yeah... and celery salt. Fresh chives if they are available, and dill. Yeah, I know. If I make too large of a batch, I'll give some away. I know some folk who always appreciate a spare bite.
Yeah. Pleased to have the r.o. in, but now to get to some other things. Gah! Can't believe how long this has taken. Oh, I might make some measurements for replacement valves while I am at it. And add the other valve that I bought while I am doing these other things. Now that I have a definite way to turn off the water, I'm more secure in spending a bit of time replacing valves. I really want to be able to turn the water off right here in the house, and in two or three places, beside under the sinks. It offers flexibility in case of some disaster or other. Yeah, and I'm... prone to disasters.
Oh, something I noted recently? You know I told you that I have spooks visit once in a while. Just little noisemakers, but still. What I thought was funny is that sometimes my cats notice the noise, sometimes they don't. But, unlike with "real" noises, I can tell it's probably a spook if they notice, by their actions. When they notice the "odd" sounds, they don't go to investigate. They merely look in the direction, rather nonchalantly. The sounds don't frighten them, when they hear them. If it is a bat, or such, they will go and try to track it through the walls. Odd.
Good night.

Odd.
Good night.
Well, so far so good?
.
.
The rest of it went together pretty much as it was supposed to fit together. Because of the fittings I purchased, I didn't use all of the parts that came with the system. For the most part, though, I used metal instead of plastic. And I chose metals that work, not metal sheen over plastic junk. No promises about even solid metals these days. You just have to understand that between false advertising and cheap being stuffed into every process, component, engineering aspect, and a near elimination of quality control, you get what you get no matter how much you spend. It's just the way of it. It's not going to get better.
After turning the water on, I was... just a bit concerned when I came in. Water was gushing, somewhere. I hoped it was just the bathtub faucet still being on, after having used that to drain the system. Yep. And the sink. The sink didn't even seem to be draining so I had opened the tub valve, and... Gush! Trickle. Done. I hate slow faucets.
I know everything is hooked up as it should be. What I don't know, and won't for a while, is if there are any leaks. I'll check twice a day for the first few days, and, by nature, that will decrease to once a week... until it is forgotten... if it all works drip free.
I had thought 15:00 was an easy target. I actually thought I would be done by 14:00 at the latest. Here it is, 14:26. It always takes longer than expected. It was all easy, after my initial problems, it all went as planned, nothing was difficult, complex, or time consuming. Not sure why those things take so much time even when all those factors are in play. Never, ever, count on a time estimate. Well, not from me. Now I have to get a shower in, dress, and try to call my friend. I'll be looking for various flowers, I suppose, and some of those other plants I have discussed. I don't need anything, so far, from the hardware... wait... I need some bolts, washers, and nuts for my bench tools... the vice and bench grinder. One piece at a time, but it's coming into focus. Don't know if I will get those today. Depends on if my friends wants to hit that type of store. Hmm... Then again, where I end up buying plants might have them.
Best get going. Later.
------
No leaks yet, still. I turned off the new ball valve and it is holding. So I decided to drain the first tank of water. Two more cycles after that. Then I can finally enjoy r.o. water again. It's been a while. I have decided not to go into town tonight. Probably. I will have to go in tomorrow morning though, as plants are required. I'll just have to wait until later in the week to see my friend. I just don't have more to put out for almost anything today. Still, if I can be pretty sure about the water tightness of the system, get it cycled through to readiness, and perhaps put some of the things back under the sink that I had to remove for the work, that will be enough.
Wow, that drains very quickly. I was thinking it would take an half hour per. It's taking, give or take, about ten minutes. Finally, I'll be able to make a fresh pot of coffee for the first time in days. And... now I am more comfortable moving forward with ball valves on the rest of the lines. I won't sweat those in though... that seems to kill valves, even when I have tried to be very careful. I watched vids, read, practiced on other sweating tasks to get an idea, and all but timed it. Didn't matter. Must be something I don't know or they aren't telling, or don't know themselves. Later.

A littler later, but at it.

It was probably 10:30 or 11:00 before I got to it. The outside water shut-off valve was employed as a last ditch effort to turn the water off in the 'cave'. It seems to have worked. There is that. As I started putting the puzzle together, I read over a line and missed a detail. Why instructions this time and not others? Sometimes I know enough what I am doing. This time, not so much. Little bits, here and there, various lines, too much picky minor detail to try to shoot in the dark on this one. I know my limits... if that isn't always where I stop. Obviously.
I tried to call their tech. An half our on the line to no results. But while listening, I was told to find the serial number and the model. I found the name of the model but could find the serial number nowhere. Not on the package, the device, the booklet. Still don't know it. But, I kept looking over the instructions, and finally noticed the problem. True, the blue cord would not fit where it was allotted to fit on the bottom of the faucet. But in the diagram they showed a piece fitting between the two. A 1/4" plug that would then fit the 3/8" plug in the faucet bottom. *click* They work from 9:00 to 17:00, Arizona time. It's just that no one is there. Maybe Herbert? Never mind.
After getting the faucet hoses attached, and a little fussing figuring out what to do, when, and how, I realized the black and red lines had to be removed. They wouldn't allow the piece under the sink to secure, or at least it didn't look, to me, like that would work. No problem, I hope. I removed those, leaving the blue line attached. It is placed in such a manner that it won't interfere with the attachment. I had to take the mounting tape backing off, so the sticky stuff would stick. But, then, I needed a rest.
Next I have to re-insert those hoses, hook all the hoses to where they go, put a shut-off valve in the tank, drill some holes for the filter holder to attach to the wall of the basin area, and... turn the water back on. Oh, then I have to fill, then flush, the tank, three times, do a hoola dance, throw salt over my shoulder, and knock on wood. I think that's what the instructions said. I'm trying to hurry, to get to town by 15:00 or so, at the latest. We'll see. I'll set the beeper for 15 minutes, then get to it. (It's actually 12:20, not the posting time... I think they are doing that so they can shut down the internet and pull any posts that aren't supposed to be posted about some government misaction or other event they wish to stifle.)

Those of you who read here, and generally have a nose to what is going on... but aren't always sure? Seriously, no worries. Failed romances, even idealized ones that I never thought had a real chance... are things of mirth in these parts. Oh, there is always a bit of sting, but I am rather used to stings, barbs, cuts, bruises, puncture wounds, and such. Trust me, minor issue. I'm almost glad if one gets away. Women, truth be told, are a lot of work. Sure, there are joys, but there are... they are... complications, start to stop. I'm an old, ill, man. Don't begrudge my minor fancies and understood delusions. They give me something to ponder during the day.
As for the darker aspects of recent things? That was just an idealized set of notions of how the world works. Fanciful, a bit, but with some grains of truth. They aren't... urhm, how to say this... they aren't depicting my nature. I was always a bit of a soft-shoe guy. Women provide the drama. The most I ever have done is... encourage it with women who had chosen to be with me. Beyond, at this age, really, if I mean it, or even think it often, you see it. I have no hidden side. What you see, or read, literally and rather directly, is what you get. That dual-sided thing is a thing of youth. I am, simply, no longer that young and was always rather more assertive than passive. Young men, these days, seem to be more passive, thus dual sided. Wasn't my gig.
Combat ready, but even that isn't what it seems. I'd be easy to kill if you use only the slightest of intrigue. Come as a friend, point to something you seemingly want to show me, let me take the lead, and pull the trigger from behind. I am very simple. Just... make sure it works, for both of our sakes, innit. As for being cold-blooded? That's just the reality of romance. One, or the other, and often taking turns, is just that. Someone has to be in charge and make the hard cold decisions, and generally I prefer that to be my role. Choices, but the facts remain and someone has to do it.
Just don't worry. I'm either discussing what women face, and pointing out their foibles, or laughing at my... peculiar fancies and failures. I do have a mean bone in my body, dozens of them, lethal, every one of them. Harder than steel. But you have to cut through my flesh and pull one, or more, out to get a taste of that. They are not just sitting there, right under the skin, like some kind of trap for the unwary. I'm not vengeful, or at least undeservedly. I am old enough that I think, long and very hard, before I act. You watched as I wove a story about a point of interest, but did not act because I wasn't sure. As I saw that it was not reciprocal, I let it go without a word. And, as it passed, I have done nothing regarding it. Seriously... relax.
I am rather good at life, easy going to a fault. Just... thought I should say something. Yeah, I know you read here. And, I saw troubled thoughts. *sigh* Relax.

Awake and at a right time.
.
.
I made sure the set the alarm, just in case. I was to bed a bit later last night. I just couldn't quite get to bed as soon as I hoped. A bit of a zombie state, which... can lead to insomnia if I'm not very careful. Still, just an hour later than I had intended so no harm, no foul, this time. But, I focused on setting the alarm, right at 6:00. And, I focused on waking before the alarm went off. I truly hate alarm clocks, if I like what they do even more. I have worked very hard at trying to maintain a schedule. And, given my health, I have to guess I do better than some of the others in my 'class'. I woke right at 5:26 this morning.
I continue to work on chastity. The honest truth, however, is that I have biological limits. The longest I can go is a month and an half. But, too, that isn't usual. A bit (lot) of prayer and luck are involved, and having the ability to focus. Usually, a week or two is doing good. I only include this material as an honest assessment from a man to other men intent on celibacy. Other men who consider this path aren't, often, given honest assessments. I have found none, myself. It's not easy. And I don't think, for most men, as with myself, that it is perfectly possible. There are two forms of failure. The first is conscious, the other is often referred to as 'night emissions'. The latter hadn't been a part of the problem until I became better at chastity. Then, it too, became... uhrm... an issue. Don't think I don't try. Don't think I don't pray. Don't think I don't use every trick I can. Simply sometimes the will is at odds with the body, and sometimes the will fails. Sometimes, rarely, a month and an half... sometimes I can't make it a day. My medicines, and health, also play a part. At least I know I am still viable. Quite healthy, in this regard, if I might prefer otherwise. I still think it's a sort of practical joke by God. A minor cross, a push to find a wife, I don't know. But I am sincere, and honest, just fallible.
I never did call my friend. I still have to go to town today, for plants. This afternoon, I suspect. This morning I am hoping to get the water turned off at the city waterline, then see what else is wrong with my installation process so that, when in town, I might... solve that. Nothing about this process has gone right. Nothing. Further, more valves have failed in the process. *shrug* This is why guys don't do things. Seriously, this is supposed to be a simple process. It has been anything but. Hmm... Some things I might do is look for replacement valves, ball valves this time, for the various valves downstairs that have failed. Three of them... I'll have to measure, but I think they are half inch. Bleh.
I'll get to work in a couple hours. I just need some time to wake up. I have to have a bit of time. If I try to pop to things, and I'm not ready, bad things happen. Including ending up "zoned", in my chair, wondering, at the end of the day, what the heck happened. Push, but only when there are things to help with the push, and with an understanding that there will be a price. I'm not well. Just a fact.

Well, now water won't shut off.
.
.
I was able to turn the water off yesterday and the day before. A valve downstairs made that possible. Today? Not so much. I have two other valves downstairs, into the water softener. Even with the main valve, and those valves, closed as tightly as all of them will close, water is still coming through. It just doesn't make sense. I thought, maybe, if water pressure is particularly high... but that shouldn't matter. It just doesn't make sense... unless I tightened the valve(s) too hard the last time I shut them, or opened them. I don't know. The only thing I can do is to try turning the water off at the connection to city water. Never easy, never works the same day to day, can't count on anything to work.
I'll do it tomorrow. I just don't feel like screwing around for another two hours on things that should just work. Hmm... I might get the grill going. I have supper coming, but a single brot, with the rest cooked, might not be bad. Perhaps even some other meat cooked, and just stored cold. At least I know THAT works. Later.

Yeah, a touch of music to go with the notions.

Mean girls.
.
.
So a man decides, because girls are mean, they deserve to die and he hates them? Yeah, well... Girls are mean. And getting the one you want doesn't always work, nor would, in my opinion, a guy want that to work. Heck, that's... half of why I like women, personally. Something wrong with that guy, seriously wrong. Women are mean and cruel, and when you marry them or accept them as a partner, all of that aspect of them becomes focused on you while they then go on to try to like other men. Half of your job, at that point, with them, is convincing them 'why not'. True? As true as I can make out. Which means being nice, or friends, even after marriage, is a sub-aspect of the relationship. Girls are mean and they grow up to be meaner. And that intensifies once married. Love em' or leave em', but they are what they are. The Bride of Frankenstein vid I just put up said much. If a man hates women for being mean, that's his problem.
Some guys suggest that being a jerk to women is the way. This guy thought being a "gentleman" would give him license to be a cad. The latter are more correct, among the pick-up artist crowd. Pick-up artist, aka PUA, you ask? Ah, that would be men who have no real... way with the ladies, but who have learned... lessor means of still attracting medium to high point (appearance ratings) women, who would normally be well out of their natural selection means, for sex. Their relationships go nowhere, it's just a fling. Some women are in it for their own thing, so it's difficult to have pity on, say, a golddigger who gets caught in a fly trap. Meh, whatever for the jetset crowd and wannabes. Oh, sure, I did my stint in that gig. Got over it. Wisdom came to town. And... I didn't have to fake anything. Never even heard of "game". Didn't need it, and still don't, if all I wanted was a little leg.
In my opinion, they are both wrong, if the pick-up artists are more correct. It comes down to success rates. Well, and defining success. If merely having sex is your idea of success, then the PUA wins, hands down. (Not my notion of success, but whatever.) As I said, being friends with women, any woman, including your wife, as the primary aspect of the relationship, as a lifestyle, is... a mistake. Women live in a tiered world. If you are equal or less than her, in her eyes, then you are there for her, totally. The world revolves around her, and I think, to a degree, because of children, it is the way it has to be... until she has children and goes on from that static initial point. Even then, I think children are an extension of her, so... it doesn't travel far. You cease to be important or relevant if you confine yourself to being her equal. You become a nonety, a servant, or less. It's just how she is wired. If you are, in her eyes, superior, more aggressive/assertive, and that translates to attraction (which it usually will), and she is sort of into you, then she will serve you. That is, biblically and historically, what marriage is about, partly, on her side. Taming the shrew, anyone? That doesn't mean you get to be a jerk. Being a total jerk trip-fucks her system for a while, but it isn't sustainable... if nothing else on the part of the guy, especially since he is probably faking it. Unless he is a sociopath. Few, even of those who present as such, are. A man has to, as chief and captain, run the ship. A bad captain will, eventually, be mutinied against.
Now, you don't see the captain down in the boiler room all that often. You don't see him swabbing the decks. But if all else fails, you may. He can't be above any job, if he has everyone doing something else at his command. In other words, the mission is above his command level. So, to prevent from swabbing decks, he has to license this and that task, and command level, out. He has to manage manpower and mission. His commands have to be reasoned. And, sometimes, he does have to do the work, even so. But that isn't a surrender of command, only an insurance that the mission is greater than his command level. Marriage, and sustaining it, are above him being king, captain, and such. A very nuanced thing, but... It's how I see it.
Those who dream of woman as equals, and being as pleasant as they are attractive, are horribly idealistic. Not only does it not work, it doesn't fit the roles as they are defined or how they function. They fit in the category of people who believe that some people can do all the work only to have the fruits of their labor stolen and given to the lazy, or anybody else. That never works either. Woman do not accept equals as mates. They, if research is correct (and it does seem to match what I have seen), choose men who can handle their worst and still manage the operation. They want, generally, a smarter man. They expect him to be stronger. They look for a man whom they consider to be superior, at least to them, as they understand things (which *cough* changes over time - they are moving targets after all, care must be given in this arena). And then they follow him, begrudgingly often, even so. Sometimes confusing superior with perfect. :p
Yes, women are mean. It's their only natural defense. If a woman laughs at you, laugh back. Trust me, she is much more psychically, and socially, fragile than you are. If she screams in horror, then, my friend, I am afraid all is lost. That's part of why she is mean. But doing the exact same thing, or the opposite, of what she won't work, always, usually. She is testing you. If she can crush you with a laugh, for example, then you have no place in leading her. Further, that is her only means of defending herself from males who will, often, happily, get "milk for free" and go on to never buy the "cow". Oh, hate me if you like. I dare you to discuss it with me? I'll be gentle, mostly, just not bending. Moo! :)
But, ladies? Go on being mean. It's... delicious... for those of us who... hrm... understand. Such a viciously joyous little bundle of mean God gave us. I, for one, am quite pleased with how it all turned out. Even if, as it works out, I will never marry. I have sure enjoyed... the women I have known, and their ways. Mean! Cruel. And a pleasure for it. *le sighe* (in the good way)
Oh, and one last thought? If you think women are cruel to men... you have no idea. They save their true viciousness for each other. Really really. If I were ever to be tempted to be a woman, it would be for the 'special reserve' that is currency of the trade only between females. I've espyed it, a time or two, with half relish and horror. De-licious. :)
I forgot the alarm!
.
.
I went to bed later than intended last night. This and that, and it ended up being right at 21:00 again. I had full intentions of setting the alarm. It just didn't happen. I know I rolled over to do that, and kept thinking about it. I even thought I may have done it. But, nope. Sleep was grand though. Minor dreams, seemingly of the typical sort from what I remember of my emotions regarding them, but nothing stuck other than the memory of some of the emotional reactions. All good. I do like remembering dreams, some of them are nearly book length, filled with even smells and physical sensations such as a breeze or touch on my face. Even the hard ones have their place. Oh well. There is always tomorrow night.
I woke, some time near sunup. It took me a minute or two to take a consciousness census and figure out what was what. Had the alarm gone off yet? Was it about to go off? Had I set it? Nothing quite makes sense in those first moments. I often enjoy that. I just do. Since I can't seem to get anything else figured out, and often can't, one of the first things I do is check the time. Ah, but rolling over takes conscious will, usually. The alarm sound can cause an unconscious twist and roll, but that wasn't in play. Finally, it seems to take forever to focus and roll, I checked the clock. It was 6:01. Perfect! I won't curse a minute late, or not setting the alarm, especially for a minute late and a natural awakening!
Up and at it. I got the machine rolling and everything plugged in, started with a touch of caffeine, and... started a quick check of email and the blog. Oh, but the girls. They had been right outside my door when I got up. I'm not sure if they played a part in my waking, or heard me rolling and shuffling and came to... check. I think if I nearly wake, but don't quite make it, they may then try to make noise to rouse me from sleep. They have learned that efforts other than at those times simply don't work, and making too much noise may make me angrily ignore them. They have learned about how much sleep I need, usually, too. Don't think cats are stupid. They just don't waste their intellectual pursuits on your silly rules! :)
Before too long I fed them. As I said, I don't like feeding them right when I wake up. An hour is the usual distance between waking and them getting fed, or they will begin pushing to wake me earlier. Hey, even kids do this type of thing unless strictly limited. This morning, in... celebration... they were fed at about the half hour mark. All good.
A bit rough, the shoulder blade still aches when I wake. It'll hurt off an on all day, depending on what else I do, or don't do. Too little activity, just sitting and for too long, will cause the thing to ache. As will doing a bit much, or pushing until tired. The latter is not my favored. I don't mind causing ache by doing at all, and encourage it if I can. It'll eventually get better.
Well... on to my day. The reverse osmosis should go in without too much more of a problem. And I bought a couple of plugs as well, for the non-standard drain connection for the old r.o. system. Should is a very... ugly term though. Should? Lots of things should. Few things do. I'll know, hopefully at about 10:00, when I have fully waken, whether that system will go in. Later.

Yeah, I pretty much knew it.
.
.
The valves I bought needs a pair of sizers each, up and down, to fit. Of course. Attention to detail was not in play while I was looking things over and purchasing. I wasn't in good shape, and that sort of remains. Minor items, of course. But it means another run to town, and a shower before that. All of which always take more time than one would have suspected. Especially if traffic is as bad today as it was yesterday. Hmm... if the stores are open. A phone call first, just to make sure, assuming I can get everything going in time.
I did chop a cup of dried cranberries, and added those to the coleslaw. I can't say they added all that much, but they definitely didn't hurt the salad. I would be happy with or without. A sack of those will last several salads, at least two. Since I don't add sugar on top of everything else, the berries are perfect as additions go. And the ones I picked aren't terribly sweet, though they aren't bitter either. Just a nice, chewy, sweet-tart add. I'm just not one who favors having everything sweet. Yeah, I think eating this summer may be a bit easier as I experiment, and am doing better so as to shop more frequently, and cook in batches for the week.
Plenty of sauerkraut for the brots, whenever I get to those. Though meats of several types go well with sauerkraut, heated or added cold, like, and with a condiments. The only thing I could use more of is bread. I'd love to make a minor clay bakery, outside, for summer. The oven works well inside in the winter, and is welcome, if I could get to that. The thing is to have several different bread recipes for different things. Softer breads for things like brisket, imho, harder breads for soups and toast? Something. One bread, much like one anything, just doesn't do. Who knows about a clay bakery/oven, perhaps big enough for a decent homemade pizza from time to time?. If I live long enough.
I best get going it I want to be back by 17:00... Later.
------
Wasn't sure I would make it in. Got the shower down, then dressed, and... after a minor rest, I did get in. Further, I got in fast enough to make it back by 17:00. I got everything I will need, and some things I might need. Further, I got several sizes, just in case. I don't know if I will get the r.o. plugged in yet tonight, but it could happen. It was 87 out there, or at least that is what one of the temp signs was indicating. It was warm, but not too hot, at least for my short fast run. Hmm, I'll call my friend shortly, and see if he wants to goof Wednesday. I need to pick up some flowers, and might as well look for asparagus, horse radish, and maybe jerusalem... something or other, while I am at it. Yeah, forget once, okay. Forget not twice.

Not a bad meal.

I decided to go for an early lunch. Coleslaw is very easy to make, and it gets better with time... urhm... up to a point. I made some of that and sliced the last of the brisket, then heated that. While I just didn't have time to go to the 'real' breadstore, I did pick up a loaf of swirl rye, or so that package said. Just fluff, you can tell when you lift it, and with a minor squeeze, that it's just sugar made to look like bread. Still, I was hoping for some rye flavor. I used the fresh slaw, four slices of bread, and four thin cuts of brisket for a very nice lunch. The rest of the coleslaw is... marinating, covered, in the fridge. While I used to really not like cabbage, I never minded coleslaw. Now I really enjoy it. Ah, forgot to add the dried fruit. I bought one package of dried cherries and one of dried cranberries, so I have something for the future. Cranberries first, I think, into the slaw. If... I can find them.
I went very simply with the slaw. I only had baby carrots, so I sliced some of those, on a bias. Then a head of cabbage of course. A cup of mayo, I would guess, mixed with a half a cup of apple vinegar, a teaspoon of salt, and a tablespoon of black pepper. Adding the dried cranberries will be the final touch. Nothing fancy. And, really, I prefer things more plain. I'm not into marinades or long ingredient lists. I'm not terribly into fancy, exacting, cooking or baking processes save an occasional bit of fun. Whole, simple, straight up, with everything being as fresh as possible. That works for me. Next week, potato salad? Sure seems like the right time of the year. A bowl of these things will last me nearly a week, or close enough. Grilling and this, plus an few meals coming in, and scrounging between will see me to eating better than I have in ages. I need that, too, once in a while.
No mice in the trap I set. They may vacate as soon as the weather outside is warm enough. Having two, always hungry, cats in the premises, and them having access to the basement, means that the only real reason a mouse would be here is if the choice was between freezing to death and playing cat and mouse. I'll... Keep the trap ready for this fall. Urhm, I will have to clean off the peanut butter or that will go rancid. I might leave it down there for another week, checking it every other day, just in case. I was sure hoping for a couple of free treats for the girls. They definitely love such things. I may buy mouse cages, though, in case I get more than I wish to feed the girls at once. Feed them leftovers, or bits of rice or other grain, along with a little water bowl, maybe some stuff to soak up their droppings. I'll think about it more as I get to fall.
Oh, right... I'm about ready to dig into the r.o. install. I have to turn the water off, then drain the lines, then install the new valves. Might as well do them both while I am at it. It shouldn't be too much of a problem. But then, something else always seems to come up, no task is as quick as it might seem, and... *sigh* Yeah, I'll quite moaning and get to it. That's the only way I'll ever get it done.
I called my mother this morning, and she was taking calls. All good. They had a barbeque yesterday, and my mother is becoming... better at leaving her phone out of earshot. Oh, I'll ne'r complain about that. Then it was too late when she realized I had called. No problems here. I'm just glad she enjoyed a good meal and fine company yesterday. Shopping and mowing today, a riding mower... something she really does enjoy. Actually both jobs are to her liking. Mostly, sort of, as jobs go. I just need to check up on her once in a while. More for her emotions, otherwise she thinks no one loves her. :) Crazy woman.
Oh, haven't been editing lately. I just, seriously, don't have that kind of focus. Don't worry, Lucy. You've probably seen worse.
Well... I ought to get busy. Later.

I went to bed at about 21:00, a bit before but that was my count. Rounding up, so that when I figure an alarm time I make sure to sleep at least eight hours. It's a goal. Not always doable but, generally, lately, that works. Less sleep, and for a while I work much better if I am miserable. And sleeping about six hours really does improve output, until it flips my sleep schedule. That is guaranteed. Then I need some unknown, unknowable period of recovery and another unknowable period to shift my sleep cycle back to nights. That flip will happen, from time to time, just not as often if I sleep enough. Basically, I am fragile. So a major change in weather, a serious emotional or spiritual crisis or, sometimes, just because, and my schedule flips. I can't change that fact, but I can extend a regular sleep cycle, or crush it, through conscious or unconscious activity.
So, I set the alarm for an nine hours. Setting the alarm with an extra hour... is helpful. When I am doing well, I will wake right at eight hours, when not, I might need a bit of that extra. The goal, to my mind, whatever the case, is to wake before the alarm goes off. It is a joy to not hear the alarm, to wake naturally. This morning? Right at 5:56! Four minutes before the alarm I woke. Before checking I almost went back to sleep. Had to look first. Oh, I'll take it. It's the little things, sometimes.
Today? I honestly don't know. The goals are simple. First, to install the r.o., cycle the tank several times, and have that done, ready, and filled. Then, laundry and dishes. Not sure I can focus, and maintain that for the tasks, but there it is. I still wake to some pain in that shoulder blade, but it passes within two or three hours, mostly, usually. Effort can bring some pain back. But if I am in a better general condition, the pain is irrelevant. If not, a few anacin takes up the slack enough to do more, or just tolerate the pain as I sit if nothing is 'doing'. Today it is easily tolerable.
My life is full of little rules, minor understandings, simple possibilities. I have learned to simply accept what happens, looking for opportunities for work, pushing when I can, relaxing when I must (most of the time). While it isn't a perfect life, I don't believe there is a perfect life. Life, in this reality, is a matter of patience and suffering. Successes, as with joys and pleasures, are very small dots on a very long line that is called life. Like sea creatures that come up, once in a while, for air, most of our lives are spent at varying depths, moving from this place to that, searching for enough food to eat, and finding 'joy' by rising to the surface once in a great while. If you can learn to live with that, life is good. If you can't, or haven't learned to surface well, life is very difficult. I have learned, that's all. Perhaps the trick is to learn, sometimes, to live without as much pleasure? To test one's abilities going with less? A joy in itself? Yeah, maybe. But I am there, so...
Hmm... Tried to call my mother yesterday. It seems she may have gone to bed early. Sometimes she just needs that, sometimes she overworks and has to sleep a bit early. All good. She, too, wouldn't really change much. She likes her life as it is. Mostly. I'll see if she is up, or at least near the phone. She's a morning flower, so that usually isn't a problem. Oh... I'll get the grill going for lunch, make coleslaw too, and having either brots or a steak. Might cook it all and have something around just for reheating. Later.
.
No capacity.
.
.
Not today. I had plans. I really thought about them. I wanted to get to even one of them. A lack of the ability to focus and perpetually being tired combined to simply make actually doing anything pretty much impossible. Oh, sure, the girls were fed, there water bowl filled, and Sam let out when she wanted, a few times. That's it. Not sure tomorrow will be much better, but I never place bets. If I get the opportunity, I take it. An inch or a mile, whatever I can get.
Though tired, I only become slightly disoriented when I try to do something. Yeah, I've started a few projects only to find myself lost, retreating from whatever. The day has been a fine one. And I am awake at 18:00 and change, so far. If this holds, I will have changed my sleep schedule in a week this time. Yeah, it keeps tipping. Every time I put out a lot of energy, in a hike, or by simply doing several bigger tasks in a day here at home, but definitely when I do a number of things during a week, the chances of a schedule shift increase, usually right until it is pretty much guaranteed. Why it always surprises me I'll never know. Hope eternal? More like very poor memory.
I think a run to town is off until Wednesday. But I will be calling my friend shortly and trying to schedule something on that day. It'll give him time to set up for it, and be ready. I'm glad I didn't schedule anything sooner. And I won't be able to swear to it, only that I will try. Oh, best make sure to have a camp chair for the trip. I know he'll want to put a few shots down range. We can probably do that.
I hope supper arrives soon. I am burning the last of my embers. If too much time passes, I'll just let them off the hook for tonight. These last bits of time, as I shut the show down, after changing schedule, can be... odd, and difficult as to staying awake. Getting just a touch dizzy. Good night.

A notion presented, a suggestion given.

.
A new friend suggested something recently. I have been a bit low to be doing much, including responding. Still, as I recovered, I considered the proposition.
There is always more than one path, if only one direction. There are reasons to take various paths. If you have the strength and stamina to take the pass over the mountain, you may gain time. But if that path is too hard, the effort might cost your life, so the valley road may be safer and surer. We are not always the best at knowing our limits, gauging other factors, and making the right choice. That is why guides are chosen, whether those are other people or written. And, there are factors that cannot be considered as they only exist from time to time. Choices, decisions, all around us. God has offered some advice, but it isn't something that can be brought down to every single action, or even more broadly, such as which path to take between two literal ways to a specific geographical location.
I have been considering what was proposed. And, as I see things, with the givens, the proposition is just fine. However, I believe I saw another course, and reasons for that. It, as always, depends on the traveler and their capacity. The pass or the valley way? I can't speak to that. I can only see the options, the dangers each might hold, and use the other variables I note to offer a clearer understanding of the choice at hand. And, so, finally, weeks after the notion was presented, I have responded. I have... suggested... something about a relation to turtles, haven't I? Well... that hasn't changed. :)

Can't be sure... about much.

Was it 17:30, 18:00, 18:30, later... earlier? Wow. I cooked off yesterday. I used every bit of everything I had doing that little bit that I did. I made sure to let the girls sleep with me, I think, from the start. They keep me from falling too deeply into sleep. Even so, my throat was sore this morning, so I must have snored up a storm. Not a usual thing, just when I've pushed around the clock or past my means. Yesterday was a touch of both. But it looks like my days and nights might be about to flip back into trim.
I was a little nervous that I would be suffering this morning. No more than normal, as it turns out. If I am a little... more uncomfortable with it than usual. A few anacin should fix that. It's been a month since my trip. But I think I am about to come out of it. I don't think that muscle/nerve issue hurt anything though. I was just tired on top of it, separate from it. Actually, the pain was... a good thing. Well, and getting the task involved completed was well worth it too. On my own, moving the weights would have been a day and recover, then putting the thing together, maybe, then... Yeah... that would have been difficult solo. Which is... why I probably hadn't done it. My energy/health bean counter knows what a reasonable task is. And, since I purchased the gear, I haven't been able.
I forgot a few things, couldn't find a few things, and a few things simply weren't available. Most of that will wait until next month, or is off the list. A few things still need to be purchased. I would love to go back to town today. I think I will, instead, try to finish the r.o. install, hit laundry, and do the dishes. That's pretty much it. Tomorrow, if I can keep it going, perhaps another trip to town... or Tuesday, or Wednesday. Whichever, I plan to see if my friend needs let out for a bit and take him with me. He loves the hardware store as much as I do, and may have a few other places to go for his own reasons. Two boys looking for candy stores of the adult variety. Hardware, electronic, automotive, firearm, blade, even possibly bowery stores though general hunting and outfitter stores work for near one-stops, well... and food. Life is easy for men. Even when money is short. Eye candy, all I'm saying.
So very pleased. Yeah, it took... a while... to get in. But I did get in. I may not be moving ahead on my plans as fast as I had hoped, but I am moving forward. Medicine is on track and I am keeping it that way. I am doing well enough, finally, that I have started brushing regularly and using that specialty stuff the dentist office sent me, for the gums. Two weeks, it is to be used, but straight, and morning and night. I just started that as the trip would have been a bit of a problem for regularity and I got it a week before. Just brushing this first week, twice a day, but I'll begin hitting floss next week, just at night. One thing at a time. Hmm, if I can get life twirled around, I might start taking my stats. I actually think taking them, even partially regularly every other day if more so with nearly daily checks, lowers my stats. Which... means... medicines, while they help, are only helpful if guided by the mind. Or... to some odd degree. An odd thing with reality and observation again.
On to... waking up. Later.
