No, I set my alarm clock for 9:00. Rolling out of bed around 10:30 after a couple of long days and a late bedtime didn't bother me too much. Still, I wanted to figure out why, in my better health, I didn't even remember hearing the alarm. Ah, set the alarm for "9:00" all right, 21:00 that is. I was pretty tired when I set the alarm.
D.C. has been passing suggestions and I have been digging into them. A bit of research to know as much about what he is suggesting. A bit of looking at my problems, and I think I have a plan. Fittings can probably be purchased anywhere, but at least one item is not available locally from what I saw. Thankfully I will be traveling today on other affairs, but that should put me in a place where the rarer item is available.
It looks like the whoever built the system had some of D.C.'s notions in mind, but the application of it wasn't the best. They made the water heater itself easy enough to switch out, but left no room for a faulty valve and excluded it from the ease of change design. The hot water side of things will be a simple thing to remove, with a union on that side. The cold water inlet side will make it easy to remove the water heater itself. But the valve will take... well... there are several ways to work with that. I may end up needing to take out some dry wall, add some pipe length through the wall... or cut the valve off the incoming water pipe as close to the valve as possible and work with a very little bit of pipe to try and put on a union there. A heat shield is absolutely required there.
I don't think I have dug down to my nest-egg basics, yet. But I have to be getting close. If it weren't for food coming in, I couldn't be doing what I am doing though. Even the techno-plumb-electro-knight I am trying to become crawls on his stomach. I am having trouble keeping up with the work, dealing with all the food would really add difficulty. I'm honestly not sure how D.C. does it, though I think there are sacrifices that aren't discussed. That's all I'm saying. A woman would be a great auxiliary to these affairs, so long as she was on-board to doing them. A woman, when she is 'agin' whatever you doing, sometimes even indifferent, makes a fairly hefty anchor, even if she is the tiniest of womenfolk. I've towed a few anchors, from time to time, and can do it for the short haul if need be, but not forever.
My friend called. He talked about getting a one hour shower in. *sigh* Even before my tank tanked I was lucky to be getting a five minute shower out of the damned thing. So I am not terribly sad to see it go. I doubt if even a mediocre tankless could be much worse, more so since it will only be serving one bathroom, meaning one outlet, at a time. And, even then, for whatever reason, the water wouldn't always be hot. The temp would shift. Even a 20 minute mostly hot (but no less than warm) shower would be nice.
While I won't be able to respond, I can read any advice you might think wise to send while I head out.
Hmm, now to brace myself for a cold-water wash. Hmm, wait. I could use some of the cold water I have and boil some water for at least a more feasible morning wash. Yeah, okay.
*says to self* Use that brain, boy, I say boy!
Later.

ReplyDeleteA bloody damn boat anchor she is much of the time, too.
The sacrifice is that I have no life outside of work and my projects, other than occasional entertainment weekday evenings.
The last woman I had was like that (which is why I would never consider marrying her). But most of the women I have been with were good on most things, just a couple of odd or personal things were contested (which I was (mostly) happy to do on my own or go my own way on.
ReplyDeleteAs some marriages go, some might actually prefer what you have, if none of it is ideal. It makes me wonder about couples who have been married for decades and are still truly in love, functional, and onboard each other's boat for the rowing and the fun. Or... is it all just public presence with much in the shadows? I may never know.
