The house and outside are still right at 80 F. The sun is well and truly down, has been for about an hour. I suppose, regardless of the newscasters, it really did get to 99 F today, or more. I did get out there though, working until I could not. I moved a small herd of boulders, the biggest of which I barely managed to lift. Then again, I doubt if I was at peak strength. It is a monster in any book though, at least for man powered lifting and moving. I used most of the boulders to line up a parking space parallel to the east-west road and to the west of my official driveway, putting the monster on the small spit of land to the east of my main driveway, all lined up. The next biggest boulder is directly across from the monster. Both have holes which will make fine planters. I am not quite sure what to put in them, but someone will help with that I am sure. After that, I began on the, as I know now, bigger pile of dirt. This thing is huge, about 2 times the size of the other pile or more. At least there are few rocks in this pile and that does make for lighter loads. I first thought to simply move the dirt, but after a few loads reconsidered and began neatening up the area and creating a main pile from which to work. I moved 1/3 to 1/2, I think. The ground underneath the pile is uneven, so it is difficult to gauge just what I am working with. I watered the plants and began watering the lawn again. At 22:00, it will be time to move the sprinkler.
In spite of my work, I am a bit... unhappy with today. I did not call the electrician, I did not get to the bedding, I did not call the Mr., I did not take the pictures back to the insurance company, and I did not work on bills. I really have to pick up the pace and begin making lists and keeping too them. I want to pick up the pace. How much have I improved? It does not matter if I cannot keep up with simple household chores, a few simple tasks, and business. I have to pick up the pace and keep on track. How to do this is another thing. That I will have to work on. Actually, I am just finishing off yesterdays laundry, though I suggested I might let that go so it is forgivable.
I think I will look for a valve or fitting that allows me to adjust the flow, in line, with the garden hoses. Then buy another set of hoses for watering the rest of the lawn, along with a better sprinkler for the job. The one I have puts out a circular pattern, I am hoping for something that does more of a square or rectangular pattern. I know nothing of sprinklers though, so I may do some research. Yes, researching a lawn sprinkler. It is almost sad. So much to figure out, limited money and time, but no one else will do it... nor should they. I just have to figure things out.
Oh, fie. I may be disappointed, but I cannot say that I have not improved drastically. I cannot deny I have and will do a lot of work. I am even getting my hands dirty. At least they are not getting greasy, at least not yet. That has always been a pet peeve of mine. I would not have taken a job where my hands are so oily and greasy that I could not get it out, or that my hands got that way for more than a short time. No rub on the guys who do and love it, it just is not my gig. Without them, what would the rest of us do? No, it is going well. But I really do have to pick it up and move a little faster. Excuses, or even reasons, are not acceptable anywhere anymore. If I want to live, grow, learn, and become a solid man, citizen, and student I have to just do it.
Well, that is that for the night. I am a little sore, tired, sweaty. When I cool down I will take a shower. I had thought I would grill some meat tonight, but I think I will put that off until tomorrow. Hmm, POPCORN! Yes, popcorn and a movie. Well, it was pretty darn good yesterday. Sleep well. Prayers going out tonight, some named, some not. I have been praying a bit more for a named. Yes I have.
I've found oscillating sprinklers to put out the most consistent and relatively rectangular pattern. The one I found at my local hardware store has an adjustable arc to control the width of the spray as well as controlling the length (sweep) of the spray with the usual dial. I get plus or minus a foot or two within the space I am shooting for, as long as the wind isn't driving it off target. It is easily capable of the 40' by 30 foot target area and could be extended out to about 50' by 40'.
ReplyDeleteMost every other sprinkler I've tried drenches the area right around the sprinkler too heavily and the outer perimeter gets much less.
Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. Oddly, though I was not sure what an oscillating sprinkler was, what came to mind matched what they are. Perhaps I have just heard it somewhere or something. Yes, on some things, I am extremely ignorant. Many things... too many things. Thanks.
