Eureka!

.
.
Eureka?  Isn't that what they exclaim when they find what they were digging, or striking, or else, for?  Then that would be the word.  I have been digging in my lawn, to find pipe.  A three by three by two foot deep hole, finally this morning, finding pipe... or more, pipe near the pipe perpendicular to the ground... pipe probably connected to it somehow which then runs parallel to the ground.  I found it after getting two or three more levels of dirt and rock, broken and removed... inches at a time.  I'm not a young man.

However, the sun was cresting onto my work, and the sun and I are not friends in this way.  I had to call it off.  It has been the accumulation of four or five days, over the course of a week? Two?  Digging as much as I could until I was completely drained.

Even now, seeing squiggly light shows and stars from the bit I did this morning.  But I... got excited, and began digging with abandon, in the hopes of completely exposing the pipe.  I kept piking, and digging, and piking, and... every shovel full just got backfilled, somehow, as if a mountain was resting on t he verge of my shoveling area!  It just wouldn't open!

Then the sun came out.  And rather than quit then and there, it is as if I became mad with a lust to uncover the pipe.  No.  No!  It just would not come out, come clean.  I dug for as long as I could, defying the sun to scorch me... which it probably did.  But the pipe would not come out, dirt just... multiplied, or seemed to, as it was loosened around the pipes.

At some point, I realized I had no more air, my resistance to the sun was spent and then some, my muscles were screaming, and I was getting too hot as well.  No, I... didn't get it.  But I did find it.  Tomorrow?  Maybe not.  Sunday, Monday?  More like Monday.  Though I may take the breaker bar and pick to it, when it gets darker, if it cools.  So close and yet so far.  Burned, scorched, exhausted, overheated, but... hungry for more, when the time comes.

I didn't get to bed until 02:30.  I thought to set the alarm, which was set for o' six, but didn't have the heart.  And knew it wouldn't work.  I saw it was eight, and decided to at least try to get up, and close the windows if nothing else.  Still so warm in here!  The night did nothing.  Well, it did, but not much.  It didn't cool last night, nor with the winds which came through.

Once I closed up shop, I decided, with what little time remained, to hack at the soil in the way of my planned operation.  Glad for it, even if not a complete success.  Knowing that it is "right there" spurred me.  And, for the first time in a while, I think I might actually be able to get to it.  I was... dubious, from the start, after my last attempt to dig to a water line.

As for the rest of the day?  If a few packages arrive, I have some returns to make.  An extra book... only ordered one, got two.  Another extra book, ordered two of similar nature, only need one.  A pair of shoes which don't fit correctly.  And a few other items.  It depends on when packages arrive, however, as some of the items to go back are in the packages arriving.

Another shower, sometime this morning.  And chores, shortly.  Waterers have mostly been filled, and I have water in ready to fill any from today.  Ducks are hungry, waiting, and thirsty.  Plus, at some point, I need to pull the bottles from the rabbits' cages.  I'll probably do when I replace them, later this afternoon.

Japanese lessons, as well.  I keep checking against some online sources, for pronunciation.  So far, I really am hitting it.  I pronounce, loudly, as I write each character/letter.  As well, with the simple vocabulary, I also sort out pronunciation.  Now, officially, and truly, their are, say, 45 to 52 sounds... depending on who you ask, and when you might have asked.  And, those sounds do not change.  However, when you put two or more of certain ones together, and pronounce them at once, odd phenomena can occur, and you end up saying something that doesn't sound like you think it would on paper.  So... it's not just plug and play.  Plenty of room to slip.

Now, they don't stress certain vowels.  All sounds get equal length.  But, some words, or in specific situations, may have a high or low tone.  Tone?  Like the sing-song of many oriental languages, but just pitch?  Something like that.  It can go high or low.  And, really, the only way to sort that out is by listening.  Trying to memorize each clause, exception, and word or particular meaning of a word, they say, for pitch, is... not likely.

Yes, there are reasons.  Even an enemy... one more... to meet.  Aye.  But not at war.  Why?  Because.  Because I said so?  Have a task, and perhaps, one more place to see yet.  Possible?  Doubtful.  But nothing I have done is... or has been... all that likely.  Including to be here, writing this.  Who ever knows.  But planning to fail is a near guarantee.  Amen.

Hmm... beer.  And milk of human kindness.  One is frequent, even when I... can't see it.  The other?  Hmm... just a thought, memory.  *wink*
