I got the bobbin filled. Worked with it. Something is wrong, with the filling process. I'll keep working on it. I was able to get it to fill fully, top to bottom. But, left to it's own devices, it fills more to one side, or the other, at an angle. I... just don't like that. I don't think that is the way it is supposed to go. I will look around, see if I can sort that out.
Ah, but my first project... I thought to make a little pocket, so as to put pens in. Engineers know, or used to know, these items. Called pocket protectors. Though the originals were made of plastic, or such. When pens had ink reservoirs, and could leak for any or no reason.
This one wouldn't protect the pocket, but it would hold a number of pens, pencils, and maybe a few small measuring devices, such as a mechanical compass, or ruler, or more. Well, save that it's an ugly girlish print. It... was the first thing I grabbed when I was doing something earlier. Then cut it down for something else. But didn't end up using it for anything else, save to put the first line of stitches on... then pulled those.
Anyway. I hemmed the top edges, sewed it inside out with a quart inch seam allowance, then turned it inside out and pushed the corners to square... rectangular, if squared at the corner? I'm never sure, always, about exact terminology. But... that should give you the point? Told you I was a bit geekish. Then checked it out. Putting sewing kit in it. Though, then I had another idea.
I wondered if my glasses would fit. Just on a lark. Yep! The perfect size for a glasses case.
My first project. I trimmed the threads. I did go back and forth, and the beginning and ends, of everything I stitched. Not exactly a project of any worth. But, that it was completely contemplated and constructed from nothing more than my imagination, without much cutting, no measuring, and no other inputs? Meh.
I have other things in mind. But, the self-repairing mat hasn't arrived. Actually, in spite of amazon saying it was sent, there have been no updates since... the 22nd? I may just cancel that, and look around. Even other sellers on amazon. That's... I don't like that. Oh, but I do have scissors, nice shears just for sewing... some standards, but too, Gingher, 8", spring action. In the 1884" lever action... wait... maybe not a repeating shear. Still, they are supposed to be top-notch? I suppose I could cut the material by hand.
I wouldn't mind making another glasses case, for beside the bed at night. But, even so, a few... things. One? No girly prints. I may have my problems, that isn't one of them. It doesn't have to be extremely manly, just... not girlish. Though, preferably handsome rather than pretty. No one will know, but I will. So... Next? I'd like to double sew the hem, so that I could add a drawstring. There is, too, a way to make a button type hole that is round. If it is big enough, or can be sized, that would be a good thing to put on both sides of the line pull pathway. Further? I'd like to put something on the back that would fit a belt, or strap. Improvements. Not sure, exactly, how to do any of those things. Only one way to find out. Oh, and this time, I would need to measure, so that the drawstring could close fully, and the glasses would fit within even that, without problems one way or another.
I... will look through the fabric bits and pieces next time I get to it. Some practice with the round button hole stitch setting, too. Oh... I'd like a lining, as well. Oh, and I have an eighth or quarter inch seam allowance foot, that I would prefer to use. If nothing else for practice, but I am using less seam allowance, up front, so I don't have to cut off the extra, or iron. Hmm... I could set the little new iron up, as well. I'll have to use a towel, folded a few times, as a pressing station, for now. And, maybe, the extra piece for the extended sewing table... which is more for quilting... but will work for this, with three or four folds of a towel on top.
Getting set up, and going. Will have to see how this work out. But, for now, just... tinkering on the web. And, maybe, before long, getting to the freezer top... clearing and cleaning. Then resetting dishes. Hmm, lunch, a late one if I woke late, first. Three pieces of chicken sounds good. Roast and veggies, later. Still, will try to get to bed earlier tonight. And up earlier tomorrow. But... it is a holiday. If I am going to sleep in, this would be that day. Later.
