I beat myself up pretty good yesterday, if I did get some things done. I have done nothing today, literally. Well, except for a well needed nap. hehe I simply am too weak. The aspirin helped, but it was not enough. On the good side, I did keep the nap to an hour or two, and I will be staying up until 23:00 or so again tonight. When I am able, I will be ready to get out and do what I need to do. I tried caffeine, heat, and small amounts of food to try and get the engine going. I even went out on the 'porch' and soaked in the beautiful fall day. The engine simply would not turn over. More aspirin and a good nights sleep again, and I will try tomorrow.
Well, I have been doing some things, if nothing on my list. Looking at available houses of the more rural, secluded, and propertied nature has been ongoing. Researching powdered milk has been one of my activities. Oh, and I happened to look up home made cheese making. Retten seems to be easy to find, and I have even heard that it often is on regular grocery stores, or may be. Next, I might investigate goats. Seriously. For meat, milk, and... well, that is it. *This... Is... America!* Hmm, though I have heard they make decent lawnmowers.
Much of my purchasing has to wait a bit, for long term storage anyway. I can probably get the 5 gallon buckets, the desiccants, and some other easy to store materials, depending on how bulky they are and how well they store in unheated storage. And, that should begin this next month if I like what I see within my constraints.
Now, the thing about serious survival and being out on one's own, is security. There are dogs, but dogs have no chance against guns. Keeping what you kill seems to be a typical new world order educational point. While they have banned Christ (or try, good luck with that one), they have introduced the notion of survival of the fittest, which merely comes down to survival of whoever shoots first and takes whatever and makes sure no one else has guns. Then again, living right in a city, large or small, has it's own problems. Like I have suggested, this is LDS country, so many of them do store food too. The problem is, only half of them are church going (or affiliated anymore), and only some portion of those really stock up. Even so, on that basis, this is a better area than most. I keep going over things, and I think, even if it is a short term thing, life will become quite tribal. If you have lived wherever you are for a long time and are considered a "good son", you might have a place, and you will be fed from those who are not "good sons" if you did not store food. Bad sons, wherever they live, city, town, or country, will merely be targets. And, of course, lawlessness will also exist. Though the difference may actually be negligible to whoever is not a good son. This is where family comes in.
Anyway, while I do the little that I do accomplish, this is on my mind, among other things. Blogging, both reading, posting, and commenting, give me something I can do as well. Most people, however, lead very busy lives. My posting has really picked up here. Since I moved, I have been posting nearly every day and up to three times a day or more at times. I do think this is a sign of improvement, if a minor one. I wish people could play more, or I could get out and work more, but this works until one of those becomes true.
Dinner time, I do believe. I am going to soak some beans tonight for supper tomorrow. Along with rice. I would like to taste them without anything to get an idea of what might make for interesting additions, additions which could be stored longer term.

That is a downside. In LDS country you are outside the dominant tribe.
ReplyDeleteOTOH, the horde will be that much thinner. For every backslidden or non-compliant LDS member, there is probably a family member or two who *did* stock up, and who will probably do what they can to keep them out of the roving zombie hordes. That is probably the greatest single advantage of where you are located. The overall personal responsibility ethic is unlikely to be higher anywhere else.

I have some LDS around me, but not enough for my comfort. My immediate neighbors are at least aware of what is coming and are sort of half-heartedly (to my way of thinking) doing some preps.
Yep. And, actually, I do respect LDS, probably more than I am technically supposed to. Something about "from their fruits". Perfect? When I find that, I'll be in heaven, not here. And, though I cannot join them, I do consider them friends and religious allies. Some in and out of our churches will respect that and it is okay, some don't.
ReplyDeleteBut like you said, when it comes down to having a solid wildcat as an ally or enemy, most will choose ally, especially if he comes bearing gifts and has his own supplies or has the capacity to be a terror. These are rather practical people. Though everyone has that shock and fear sense which can override everything else, if people have considered things beforehand, they are less likely to fall to that as far, fast, or stay that way as long as those who live in la la land.
I tend to think their tribal will be quite a bit more inclusive, as will most Christian groups. It is the atheists and others who make up the rules as they go along, those who have nothing including morals, and such who will be the danger. I actually fear for groups like the Amish, though maybe their neighbors can and will help. Yeah, I think about things.
