I almost forgot to make those calls. Time just slips by. I can roll the coins and they will take them, it seems. I have scheduled an inspection and an oil change. Because of time slots available, it won't be done by noon. The oil change was only available after noon. With the inspection done I will have time to take it in and register my auto, then have lunch.
Taking a book along will make the wait at the service department easier. I have started on the pile of books I ordered recently. The first book, though, is not quite what I had hoped. Instead of being a book regarding terms, it seems more of a pro-capitalist book which delineates economic fallacies (such as the "broken window" argument). Yeah, yeah, this is preschool stuff. Then again, I just started. Maybe it will bear fruit later on.
I am not moving fast or well. I am a bit twitchy about my mother showing up to the mess, so I feel really pressed. That isn't helping, though I doubt if it is hurting either. It is just the way of things. I had hoped to make it to Church this week, they have services on five different days. That's all I can say. After doing what is required, and not even much of that, I have little ability to maintain focus, or am out of energy. I will give it two weeks, and if I don't get in I may have to try something else. A new tack, as they say. It isn't about being out and about, it is about hitting the target time and place. Something about accuracy being apart from precision. I can sometimes do one, sometimes the other, rarely both.
Darned fool that I am, I'll keep working on things. Later.
I got onto this kindle thing recently, now i'm reading voraciously. I stopped buying fiction books a while ago because i didn't know what to do with the books once i finished with them, but now that it's all on my smart phone, i don't have to worry about getting rid of the books.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about it. But what do you do when it is time to change smartphone, or your computer breaks down, or you lose your phone? I have lots of issues with e-books, but then some of it is just the fear of the cost of a reader, and contract particulars.
ReplyDeleteIf I buy a book, they will have a hell of a time trying to take it back because the publisher published without legal authority. The publisher will simply have to pay for his mistake, unlike with e-books. The other thing is, I would like to see them alter a book on my shelf. Have they taken the word "nigger" out of Mark Twain's books yet? Even Chesterton used the word. Until I live in a nation where I know they won't mandate through law the alteration of books for any reason, I can't do e-books.
But, if it works for you, after pissing on your parade (and possibly unfairly, as I am a known paranoid :p ), then go with it. Never mind the grumpy gimp in the corner. All bark, mostly. *woof!*
