Finally, awake again.

.
.
Sleep, as can be expected, is all over the map.  Too late, tough to manage, just the way of it.  I don't roll in the mud just for my leisure, mind you.  When you find yourself, literally or virtually, on your back, the first thing you have to do is move limbs and body, as you can, in your efforts to rise.  The longer you are down, the messier it gets.  Until, at some point, you are mudwrestling without an opponent.  So it goes.  Sleep is one of those areas.  I'll figure it out before too long.

Sleep was quite good.  I let the girls in, again.  They do help me wake, if some mornings are tough that way.  I don't always appreciate the help, not in the moment.  Not even, for a while, some mornings, when it was a tough ride.  Not for a bit anyway.  Later on I begin to be thankful.  Usually, though, I appreciate their kindness *cough* right away.  Their kindness, mind you, comes straight from their bellies.  "Feed me!", I can almost hear through imperceptible rumblings from their stomachs.  Still, take what you can get.  I'll be done with my grudge on that score before too long.

Last night I realized I had no meat left.  I did have a few potatoes, two onion halves, and the cooking juice.  So... gravy and potatoes.  The gravy was perfect.  You know that thick stuff they put on breakfast meals?  Only beef, not pork, flavored.  Thick, good flavor, and rich.  Beside the fat of the beef, there was butter and whole cream.  A little baking powder (though corn starch works too), flour, and some heat.  Whisk while heating until the whisk won't.  Nice.  There is nothing like a good gravy to go along with potatoes.  Oh, and sour cream on that.  Not that lowfat crap, either.  If you are going to eat, eat right.

Women have been on my mind lately.  I'm not sure why.  This has been a more general thing.  I keep trying to figure out why, for being so annoying they are so desired.  It isn't just, or even mostly, their flesh.  Actually, I have decided, it is their flesh that brings them to being desirable, but as beings.  Femininity is the spice that makes the dish suitably desirable.  As well as frustrating.  It leads them to be where they are so that I can appreciate them.  It's difficult to express this, as it's a thin cut on logic.  A slice between.  Truly nuanced.  It isn't because of what they are, but what they are causes the interest.  Never mind, I'm not even awake yet.  And, I doubt if I will ever completely square that circle.  I do, however, greatly enjoy the effort.  Crazy cats, can't quite get away from them.

Ah, on to something.  I thawed meats for the week.  I have ham thawed, and thought eggs would go well with that, and hashbrowns.  Hmm, and toast, too, actually.  I figured out, at least probably, what is wrong with the hashbrowns I made.  It seems you need to grate them raw, then soak them to remove the starch.  The starch, from my tasting so far, does seem to be an easy causative for the lack of good browning and muddy taste and texture.  Oh, I'll finish what I have made, then see if making them from raw potatoes, and leeching the starch out, really clears up the problem.  A home isn't just a place to learn repair, upgrade, update, and maintenance mojo.  It is a fun place to do culinary experiments.  Some things I take hints about, other things I just begin, and figure out along the way.  Home is good for more than just living... or dying, sometimes.

On to... waking up and then a bit of breakfast.  Where is my COFFEE?  Oh, right.  Cats aren't all that trainable.  Never mind.  Later.
