Bee in the bonnet.

.
.
While I can't sleep and am unfit for work, my mind has been doing things. While browsing the web I happened to be directed to a horror movie. No, that one wasn't of particular interest. But it did cause me to start thinking of movies I had seen. Just as now, as a child, I had difficulty sleeping. My mother happened to be a fan of horror, and company was better than not. So, while my brother slept, we watched old horrors. I wasn't allowed to watch the really bad ones, like Last House on the Left (which I still haven't seen, and won't).

But there was one I could only faintly remember. Something about dinosaurs, and some people running, and an insane asylum at the end. I thought it would be easy to find. Not so much. A half dozen search criteria in several search engines and YouTube came up with nothing. Looking through hosts of sites, dozens of collections of trailers, I was starting to get a headache. Finally, with a list of movies and links where I could check the name and find out more, I hit upon it. "Equinox" (1970, though the original was "The Equinox", 1967).

Oh, it is a stupid movie. The monsters are claymation, the story is probably as bad as the monsters, the acting is wretched, I had no doubts. I don't think I thought it was all that good as a child. But I did see potential. Not for anything fantastic, but for more than what was shown. And, the good thing was, it wasn't the soft-port (or even harder versions) that a lot of horror was and is, it wasn't a slasher (never cared for those). Just a tale to tell over a fire while camping I suppose. But, I did find it.

There is one more I may look for someday. In the story, a young woman and her husband meet the mother-in-law (the wife's mother). As the story goes on, it turns out the mother-in-law is a witch. And she tries to kill the husband for some reason. I think they try to escape but trickery is afoot. Finally, he finds the witch, kills her, and buries her. Then continues life with his wife until he realizes it is not his wife. He races to dig up the grave of the witch only to find it was his wife he killed and buried.

I used to like Vincent Price movies, but later on realized they were extremely melodramatic. And just as cheesy as the others. Of course, he seems to have a very 'Poe' appeal. Then again, I sort of burned out on Poe long ago too. Ah well. It is interesting to find out what movies are available to watch without paying. Some are tightly guarded. Equinox was just released as a bundle of a bunch of stupid things, for $36 or so, therefore it is not available. But to me, it never will be worth $36, or even $6 and shipping. I just wanted to know what the darned thing was called! Ack. Well, I would have watched it again, if it was free. Spending my time as the fee for nostalgia, nothing more.

I think it is about bed time. I have to get up and get going for an early appointment tomorrow, but that shouldn't be a problem. I will probably be up by midnight and I am staying up 12 to 18 hours, which will see me off, which is all I need. I can limp back if I have to. Oh, beans and ham are cooked. I suppose I should tend that. It takes hours for it to cool down enough to mess with though. Hmm, a bowl of that wouldn't be a bad thing. With some of the whole whipping cream to thicken the juice. Numm!

Good night.
