Three young men, who I did not recognize, were just finishing my driveway earlier.  I hurried to get something presentable, and warm, on.  Oh, I was in pj's, but house shoes and only a t-shirt just might not cut it.  I was out in time to wave and thank them.  But they seemed... distracted.  A few waved back.  I just left it at that.  Grateful, mind you.  I won't be working fast or hard, so a shovel chore would have... really eaten up much of what I have to offer today.

I decided to look at the drain in the washroom.  I am still a bit unsure about the glues.  First, I had initially thought the black pipes, abs, was just another form of pvc.  Finding out it is a whole different ballgame gave me only a day to consider a glue.  I do have pvc glue, but I'm not even sure if that is what is best to use for household.  It just doesn't say.  Now I have two kinds of pvc glue, but neither suggests a temp range or anything else.  One is red, one is clear, and I can find crap-all online about which is best for household drains.  As to the abs glue, it is supposed to withstand very high heat and temps.  The thing with it, while it is supposed to be good for all sorts of matings, it is made for the teeth connection of the male into the female.  Fine print, all of it, difficult to see while picking up a dozen other things, and no one really able to help at all, who knows which is what.

Even sitting here at home, with nothing but time, I get nothing but static.  I found a sight that offers decent information about these things, but too generally for my needs.  I need product names, specifics, not "glue", or "cement".  Now I am getting, I hope, good information on some of it.  Such as the notion that pvc, if a screw fitting, is best to use tape not cement or such.  That is a good thing, in all ways, anyway.  Glue it all on, then removing something for a fix could end up a lot more work.  There is tape, but...

I simply cannot find the information.  Oh... the article does note that plastic piping has got the old unionists pissed because it is "stealing" jobs, and the complaint from some that the wrong piping is too often being used, etc.  Yeah, there is a reason to pay a pro, but it shouldn't be every little job.  That's just too murder expensive, especially when they just as often screw it up as we do.  Gah!  Ten to one, a "pro" would not have used couplers, and done a few other things I believe was necessary.  Would they even have used to right glue, or just what they had in their truck... or would they have charged me window time to go get the right stuff, or used stuff that was out of date, questionable... all charging me the same, too much.  Bleh.  If I want new pipes, sure, but not an open tube drain in my washroom.  Even with new pipes, I would hire someone to subcontract... at liability levels with enough insurance, and enough to lose, to keep a collar on things.  Ugh.

Yeah, grumpy, on this matter, a bit.  All good though.  It's... how it goes.  Amen.  I'll do one more quick look, see if I can't find real clarity, then go on to some of it.  Too many fine details.  Though, I think, if you struggle through?  Eventually, once you get it right to a degree, you... have it.  Later.

Nope.  None of the glues will work for abs, as I need them.  The couplings are not threaded, just sleeved.  Crap.  The mailman called and said I had packages in.  He'd be there to 13:00.  I got... distracted.  I'd like to go out, I am just not sure the stores will be open.  It will be too late for the packages though.  *sigh*  I do my best, it just doesn't always work out.  Later.
